This is a "very good" antique hardcover in green cloth-wrapped boards, 552 pages with index, 200+ black and white illustrations, decorated end papers, published by Grosset and Dunlap circa 1913.

The binding is intact, just slightly weekend, the hinges are intact, not cracked or split. The text block is square and closes tightly, edges show some tanning and mild scuffing. Upper edge tinted, some slight scuffs in color, but not spotted. Board corners are bumped with wear at the tips, cloth not frayed through. Spine head and tail bumped, slight wear. Decorations on the front cover and spine are fairly crisp, spine lightly tanned. Front and back boards show some light soiling, some scuffs on the back. Small name plate affixed to front free end paper.

Overall, a very pleasing and quaint antique book with tons of marginal and full page illustrations.

About the author: Ernest Thompson Seton (died October 23, 1946) was an author, wildlife artist, founder of the Woodcraft Indians in 1902 (renamed Woodcraft League of America) and one of the founding pioneers of the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) in 1910.

Seton also influenced Lord Baden-Powell, the founder of one of the first Scouting organizations. His notable books related to Scouting include The Birch Bark Roll and the Boy Scout Handbook. He is responsible for the appropriation and incorporation of what he believed to be American Indian elements into the traditions of the BSA.
