Published circa 1988 by the Franklin Library.

Octavo in black cloth decorated boards, silver folied text block edges all around, decorated end papers, illustrated frontispiece with a handful of additional illustrations throughout, cloth head and tail bands in the binding, Mr. Marlowe's business card is affixed to the front cover. 213 pages.

This is a "near fine" vintage hardcover. The binding and hinges are super tight - it feels like it has never been cracked to be read, no signs of thumbing on outer text block edge silver foiling. There is a small jam in the upper corner of the text block where about 10 page corner tips have been folded (see accompanying images), otherwise the text block is extremely uniform and shows very little wear. A few small spots on the bottom edges of the boards from standing on a shelf. Board corner are crisp and square. Silver decorations on front and back covers and on spine are all crisp, bright, not rubbed.

A super nice vintage pretty book! One of Mr. Chandler's best Philip Marlowe novels.
