"Firebrat", by Nancy Willard, illustrated by David Wiesner, published in 1988 by Knopf.

First edition.

This is a copy from the author's private collection from her studio work space! Honest truth.

I live about an hour's drive from where Miss Willard's family home is one block away from Vassar College where she taught for decades. I advertise online that I buy quality children's books, and so in June of 2019 I received a voice message from the late Miss Willard's husband saying that he had various titles remaining from the stock her publishers had given her over the course of her career whenever a book went to print.

8vo, green paper wrapped boards over red cloth spine, numerous black and white drawings, 121 pages.

This is a "very good" to "very good plus" vintage hardcover that Miss Willard received from her publisher upon the book's printing. It has been in her private work space until June of 2019, and possibly unread. The board corners are crisp and not bumped, the hinges tight, no writing. The top of the text block shows some faint foxing (spotting from acid in the paper, see accompanying images). The cloth spine is lightly bumped at the head, more so on the heel.

The vintage dust jacket shows the original publisher's price of $11.95 inside the front flap. There is a 1/8" closed tear at the top near the corner. There is a 1/2" closed tear at the top of the back near the spine along with chipping at the spine head. Some light surface wear on the back cover and what looks to be the faint ghost of a label at the bottom back near the UPC. A "very good" jacket
