Leather book "The Poetical Works of Robert Burns" in decorated slipcase
Published in 1927 by Thomas Nelson and Sons.
Octodecimo, green leather covers with gilt lettering on cover and decorations on spine, top edge of text block is also gilt, ribbon placemark sewn in, decorated endpapers, printed on scritta paper, 790 pages with 790.
This is a "very good" or better vintage leather clad book with a tight, crisp binding and strong hinges. There is no writing. No loose, torn or folded pages. The gilt upper text block edge is bright, not rubber or worn. The outer and lower text block edges are bright and uniform, showing no signs of thumbing. Text block closes tightly. Board corners are square, hint of wear at very tips. A few light surface rubs on front and back boards. Some rubbing on the surface of the soft leather on the spine. Gilt lettering and decorations on the front and spine are crisp and complete. The original vintage board slipcase is solid, no split seams. Some surface rubbing on outer corners. Funky geometric decorations all around.
This is a really gorgeous little gem!
I love the slipcase - design seems counter to the understated design of the book.
