"Babbitt" Sinclair Lewis [c.1924] Vintage Grosset & Dunlap Photoplay edition
Published in 1924 by Grosset & Dunlap.
This is a "very good minus" book in a scarce original vintage "good plus" dust wrapper. The book binding is tight, with intact hinges/gutters. The blank end papers are free from any writing, names marks. A few spots, but nothing significant. There are no loose pages, no folded corners, no tears. The glossy frontispiece and 7 internal plates featuring stills from the 1924 film are all present. The text edges are uniform, a few small scuffs on the outer edge, with the top edge being "dusty" (see images). The orange titles and design are bright, unrubbed.
The board corners are square with perhaps just a hint of wear at the very tips. The spine head and heel are bumped. The pages themselves are bright and have little or no signs of tanning on edges. There is some white staining on the back board
The original, unclipped scarce dust jacket is intact, no writing or labels. Has general surface and edge wear, some chipping and small losses on the spine and back lower edge. There is a 3/4" closed tear at back top at the letter "A" in the title, and another at the bottom below the lead lady. Appears moderately tanned overall. Not a perfect jacket, but still pleasing. Now preserved in a removable archival sleeve for proper presentation.
This is a really nice vintage copy of a much loved American Classic!
