"Captain Salt In Oz" First Edition hardcover
"Captain Salt in Oz", by Ruth Plumly Thompson, published by Reilly and Lee in 1936.
Octavo, cloth wrapped boards, pictorial paste down on front cover, black and white illustrations throughout, decorated end papers, 306 pages, 16 page gatherings.
First edition, with all matching points as described in Bienvenue's Collectors Guide on page 118.
This is an "acceptable" to "good" book, complete less jacket but with a very week binding. The front gutter is intact, but the back is split. Cloth at back edge of spine and back board is split the length. Name and annotations on front end papers (See accompanying images) along with "This book belongs to" inscription on title page, otherwise no writing. The text block closes tightly and is square. No loose, torn or folded pages. The text block top edge is tanned and dusted, but the pages internally are actually surprisingly bright. Board corners are bumped and worn with underlying board visible. Spine head and tail worn and frayed.
Not a perfect book, but still pleasing, and can make a nice addition to your OZ collection.
