For almost 70 years, Georgia O'Keeffe (1887–1986) was a major influence in American art. Remarkably, she remained apart from shifting trends and stayed true to her personal vision: finding the essential, abstract forms in nature. With keen powers of observation and finesse with a brush, she captured nuance of color, shape, and light, enlivening her paintings and attracting a broad audience. She explored her landscapes, flowers, and bones in series over several years and decades. The images draw on her experiences and relate to places she lived.
