Vintage first edition "The Annotated Walden", by Henry D. Thoreau with annotations by Philip Van Doren Stern, published in 1970 by Clarkson N. Potter. This is a "very good" vintage book with a vintage dust jacket. The book has a good binding with a square text block. No apparent writing or marks. No torn pages, no loose pages, no folded pages. The text block edges are relatively even, free from marks, showing some light tanning on top and outer edges. The paper wrapped boards are free from any surface dents or rubs, with the board corners being square. The cloth wrapped spine is relatively uniform in color with bright lettering on the spine, a couple of very small specks just beneath the main title Both the top and bottom of the spine is lightly bumped. Overall, a really nice, solid vintage coffee table book. The vintage jacket has a little edge wear with some minimal chipping in places. It is not price clipped inside the front flap, showing the original publishing price of $15. Interestingly, although the book's copyright page clearly states "First Edition" with no subsequent printings listed (see images), meaning, that as per this publisher's stated practice, this is a first edition book, the jacket states "Second printing" inside the front flap at the top. I have seen this more than once for this volume, perhaps the publisher didn't print enough jackets on the first run. I can't say for sure. The jacket is now protected in an archival removable sleeve for proper presentation.502 pages including an extensive index, illustrated throughout. Will ship to you promptly, carefully packed.
