"For Whom the Bell Tolls" by Ernest Hemingway. Scribner's, in tan cloth wrapped boards.

First edition, 1940 on title page, "A" on verso. Considered to be one of Hemingway's finest works.

"Very good" hardcover, text block closes tightly, square, uniform in color on each side, with top edge being most heavily tanned. Board corners ever so lightly bumped except front upper, nearly no wear to cloth at tips. Spine head and tail bump, cloth strong. Cloth on both board relatively uniform around, edge slightly tanned, spine cloth tanned, read background of logo somewhat faded. No writing internally, no torn, loose or creased pages. Page 157 upper corner is turned down, and upon closer inspection, I note that there are some "ghost" creases where page corners had been turned down as someone read, very faint because of the passage of time, but if you are looking, you will find someone. Front gutter somewhat separated after second front free endpaper with list of Hemingway's works. Back perhaps a little weak but solid. Paste downs and opposing end papers show some tanning.

See accompanying images for complete condition details.

The accompanying jacket has been custom made for this book and is an exact facsimile of the original first edition jacket issued in 1940, identical in every detail with the exception of the small lettered logo of the printer at the top of the front flap! Dust jacket is in a removable archival sleeve for proper presentation.
