"A Passage to India" by E.M. Forster, published by the Modern Library in 1940. Octavo, green cloth wrapped boards, Rockwell Kent designed end papers, tinted text block top edge, 322 pages in original dust jacket. Scarce first edition in first edition dust wrapper. This is a "good" or a little better vintage hard cover with a solid spine and intact hinges. No writing, no loose or torn pages. A handful of lower page corner tips are turned. The cloth boards coloring is spotty (see accompanying images), not sure why, if it was moisture exposure, the text block shows no signs of such. The board corners are square, perhaps ever so slightly bumped with a little wear, slight, at the very tips. Spine head and heel are bumped with just hint of rubbing. The top edge tinting of the text block is relatively even, with just a few small scuffs. The original vintage dust wrapped is not clipped. A half-quarter size loss at the top of the spine, with some small ones at the bottom. There is a closed tear at the front flap fold with some small losses. Not a perfect jacket, but still very pleasant. Now carefully protected in a removable archival sleeve for proper presentation. Will ship carefully packaged and fully insured.
