"The Boy Travellers in South America" by Thomas Knox, published in 1886 by Harper and Brothers.

Octavo in decorated maroon cloth wrapped boards, pictorial etched front, back and spine, gilt in design, front and back end papers decorated with a map of the continent named, full color frontispiece, well over 300 black and white illustrations, seems to have remains of gilt top edge, cloth head and tail band in binding, 510 pages.

This is a "good plus" antique book with a solid spine and intact board gutters. There are no loose or folded pages. The frontispiece does have a small, 1/2" closed tear at the top, but otherwise no apparent tears. No writing. An "ex-libris" plate affixed to second front free end paper (see accompanying images) dating to 1992 along with a smaller, much earlier owner label above. The text block closes tightly and is relatively square. All board corners are bumped with with wear, both front corners worn to underlying board. Spine head and heel are bumped and lightly frayed. Internally, pages are mildly tanned.

Really amazing, quaint Victorian book with many, many fun illustrations.

Will make for a great decorative touch for your library or mantle. Or as an unique gift.
