Alice Wonderland Looking Glass Lewis Carroll First edition thus faux leather w/ Snark & Phantasmagoria
Omnibus in faux leather, published by Octopus Books in London for Waldenbooks in 1984.
First edition thus.
Faux maroon leather with gold foil decorations, gilt text block all sides, banded spine, cloth head and tail bands in binding, decorated end papers, profusely illustrated with original artwork by John Tenniel, Henry Holiday, and A.B. Frost, 318 pages.
This is a "very good" or better vintage faux leather volume. The binding is tight with crisp hinges, no loose, torn or folded pages. No writing or marks. Text block closes tightly and is square, gilt edges all sides, relatively bright, light scuffs all sides when observed at the right angle. Board corners are square, no bumped, little bit of surface wear at the very tips. Spine heel is bumped, head is not. The gold foil decorations and titling is bright on spine and front cover, not rubbed with exception of letter "e" in "Adventures" on the cover. The mat paper pages are pleasantly tanned on all edges, resulting in a nice patina of age. One small white mark on the back board at the top edge (see accompanying images).
Pretty book - will make for a great addition to your collection or mantle or as a special gift!
