1902 The Hound of the Baskervilles First Edition, 4th printing Arthur Conan Doyle Cloth wrapped hardcover in custom 1st edition facsimile DJ
"The Hound of the Baskervilles" by A. Conan Doyle, published in 1902 by Grosset and Dunlap.
This is the fourth appearance in print of this novel, the first being as a serial in "The Strand" magazine, then as a novel in London by Newnes in 1902, then by McClure, Philips in the States, and then this edition by Grosset.
Presentation of cover artwork replicates the prior two hardcover editions noted above.
The binding is solid, the gutters are not split or loose. Some edge wear on board to red cloth, corners mildly bumped. Head and tail of spine bumped with wear, just the beginning hint of a little fraying there. The end papers front and back have some tanning, front has was appear to be two scripted owner abbreviations/monograms. White decorations to front board and spine appear to be chalk, as was typical of the time. Fairly well complete. No torn pages, no other marks, no folded page. Text block closes tightly, relatively square, upper edge somewhat dusted.
Accompanying dust wrapper is custom printed for this book, being a facsimile exactly matching the original first edition jacket with only difference is the addition of the small text logo of the printer inside the front flap. Enclosed in a removable, archival sleeve for proper protection and presentation.
Contains glossy illustrated black and white frontispiece, and all 7 internal full page plates.
